Dr. Greg Davis – Diagnostic Dilemmas in Forensic Pathology

Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Greg Davis, M.D., came to the University of Kentucky in 1976 as an English major, with the intent of becoming a teacher. But after taking a job as a nursing assistant to help pay the bills, Davis discovered he had a knack for medicine. After earning a medical degree in Tennessee, he quickly returned to UK and Kentucky — his home away from home — for postgraduate training.

Davis’ training led him into forensic pathology, a field of medicine that focuses on determining the cause of death through post-mortem examinations and autopsies. In 2005, he helped start UK’s Division of Forensic Consultation Services, which provides expert opinion on criminal and civil cases around the world. During its first year, the division consulted on 18 cases.  By the time he left UK in 2024, they were consulting on more than 250 cases annually. He is now in the private practice of consultation in forensic pathology and toxicology. For many years, he has hosted Dr Greg Davis on Medicine on 91.3 FM WUKY University of Kentucky Public Radio NPR.
