An up-to-date CV must be submitted with the application form and sponsor/reference letters.
Note: There is a $30 one-time application fee.

Regular / Associate Application
Student Applicants
Students applying for CSFS membership must be:
- taking forensic courses in an undergraduate program or
- working toward a Masters degree or
- enrolled in a PhD program.
In addition to a completed application form, the CSFS Membership Committee also requires proof of registration at a post-secondary learning institution and an up-to-date CV.
Note: There is a one-time $30 application fee.
Once a CSFS student member has graduated, a one-year grace period for student member status is offered, allowing the member time to obtain employment. During that year, if forensic employment is obtained, the student can apply for regular CSFS membership.
Applications are reviewed by the Membership Committee and their report is submitted to the Board of Directors and general membership at the next Annual General Meeting (AGM). New members are accepted at that time. Applications submitted after April 15th of the AGM year will be reviewed at the following AGM.
Fellowship Applicants
Fellows of the Society are regular members who have fulfilled a number of requirements. Individuals seeking Fellowship must apply and provide documentation that they have fulfilled all of the requirements. The Membership Committee is responsible for determining that all requirements have been met. This information goes to the Board of Directors in the Membership Committee’s report.
Note: There is a one-time $30 application fee.
Emeritus Applicants
In order to become an Emeritus member, the candidate must demonstrate that he/she has contributed significantly to forensic science or to the CSFS. Emeritus membership is not automatically granted upon retirement; it must have been earned. Candidates for Emeritus membership may be nominated by a Society member or may themselves request a change in status. Candidates are considered by the Membership Committee and the Board of Directors. The Board determines if an individual will become an Emeritus member.
To change from Regular to Emeritus status, direct a letter to the Membership Committee stating your contributions to the CSFS.
