Congratulations to our friends and colleagues who were appointed to the Order of Canada on December 31st, 2025.
|
The Order of Canada is the cornerstone of the Canadian Honours System. Presented by the governor general, it recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. Since its creation in 1967—Canada’s centennial year—more than 7 600 people from all sectors of society have been invested into the Order. The contributions of these trailblazers are varied, yet they have all enriched the lives of others and made a difference to this country. Their grit and passion inspire us, teach us and show us the way forward. They exemplify the Order’s motto: DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM (“They desire a better country”).

Her innovations and refined protocols enhanced safety and effectiveness at challenging crime scenes. As a mentor and a role model, she inspired a generation of forensic professionals with her dedication and contributions.

Pamela Newall is an internationally recognized leader in forensic science. She has significantly impacted the field through her long-time work in the identification, development, validation and implementation of emerging DNA analysis technologies. A prolific expert witness, she helped this novel science meet the threshold of reliability, thereby enhancing Canada’s legal system.

L’Ordre du Canada est la pierre angulaire du Régime canadien de distinctions honorifiques. Il est conféré par le gouverneur général en reconnaissance de réalisations exceptionnelles, du dévouement remarquable d’une personne envers une communauté ou d’une contribution extraordinaire à la nation. Depuis sa création en 1967, soit l’année du centenaire du Canada, plus de 7 600 personnes de tous les secteurs de la société ont été investies de l’Ordre. Ces précurseurs ont accompli des réalisations extrêmement variées, mais la façon dont ils ont changé nos vies et le visage de notre pays les unit. Leur audace et leur passion nous inspirent, nous enseignent et nous montrent la voie à suivre. Ils incarnent la devise de l’Ordre : DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM, qui signifie « Ils désirent une patrie meilleure. »
