The most recent CSFS conference, held in May 2016 at the Delta Sheraton in the host city of Montreal, was a resounding success.  The theme of the conference was “Linking the past with the future, new applications and approaches”.

Over 130 participants from across the country attended our workshops, key note speaker session, scientific sessions and exhibitors’ session.

The events included 8 workshops, 3 plenary sessions and 40 scientific presentations. It was an occasion for attendees to keep abreast of various developments in their respective fields and to renew or make new contacts with their colleagues.

Of particular interest to DNA and Biology forensic practitioners was the first ever North American workshop on the Familias DNA software, given by Dr. Daniel Kline, PhD, from the Division of Forensic Services, Norwegian Institute of Public Health.  Other workshops that were given at the conference included a half day workshop on forensic applications of the MYSeq FGx Forensic Genomic System; two half day workshops on Uncertainty of measurement and validation of methods in the context of an accredited forensic laboratory; and a half day plenary session on new DNA developments.
